The city of Asheville will be alive with March Madness during the first two weeks of the third month of 2016. The Big South Conference announced Wednesday that the league’s women’s tournament would be held March 10-13 at Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville. That will follow the Southern Conference men’s and women’s tournaments, which will be held March 3-7 at U.S. Cellular Center.
The Big South men’s and women’s tournaments were originally scheduled to be hosted by Coastal Carolina. However, after that school announced it was leaving for the Sun Belt Conference beginning in 2016, the league took away any championships Coastal Carolina would host before departing for the Sun Belt.
The women’s tournament will begin March 10, and will conclude March 13 with the championship game at 2 p.m. The Southern Conference tournament has been in Asheville since 2012. This will be the first year that the entire tournament will be held at the Cellular Center. In the previous four years Kimmel Arena hosted a portion of the women’s tournament.
