A hotel just north of downtown has been dropped seven months after residents and other property owners protested plans for the 68-foot structure.
Developers behind the proposed Towne Place Suites extended-stay hotel at 39 Elm St. had submitted detailed plans for the five-story building, which would have had 104 rooms and 94 parking spaces on land next to Interstate 240. But before Tuesday’s City Council meeting, where the hotel could have gotten zoning approval, developers pulled the project.
“The planner and city clerk received a letter withdrawing, but did not state the reason why,” Sasha Vrtunski, a planner with the city, said.
Asheville Property Inc., of Greensboro, was the listed developer with the same address as the CN Hotels company. Messages sent Monday evening to the phone and e-mail listed on city planning documents were not returned.
